Dal Fritters (Parippu Vada)

Ingredients
2 Cups of Masoor Dal or Chana Dal
1 Large Red onion OR 5-10 Shallots
2-3 Green Chillies
4-5 Dried Red Chillies
2-3 tbs Maldives Fish medium pieces
1/2 tbs Chili flakes
5-10 Curry leaves
1-2 tbs All purpose Flour if necessary
Pinch of Turmeric powder
1 tsp Salt (To taste)
Oil for frying
Step 1
Soak the dal in water for about 3-4 hours.
Step 2
Wash the dal well & drain the water.
Step 3
Take off 3-4 tbs of dal to another bowl & set aside. Take the rest of the dal and grind till it gets coarse paste. Do not add water.
Step 4
Take the ground paste and add the the dal which was kept aside. Mix all together.
Step 5
Add rest of the ingredients except all purpose flour. Mix it all. If the mixture is too watery, add all purpose flour to get the right consistency.
Step 6
Wet your hands & make medium size balls off the mixture. It depends the size of vada you are going to make. Flatten the dal mixture on your palm and make it round.
Step 7
Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the vada until it gets nice brown color.
Step 8
Serve it with kochchi (Bird eye chili) Sambol.
